Task 4

Media’s influence impacts on people and can change their attitude and thoughts. As we have a large variety of media, its influence gets larger all the time. A normal person can be influenced by many things as he is getting older. In this essay I am going to write whether I agree or disagree with this issue.
Living in an Islamic culture has a massive influence in shaping people’s ideas and beliefs. For me, religion and culture are the main cause of shaping my ideas and behavior. For example, saying the truth and not lying is something we learned from our religion, not something we catch in TV or newspaper. It’s like you had some rules and instructions to follow which will guide you forever. However, we learned many things from our parents and friends, but it’s all based on our religion. For example, respecting people and other religions and how to how to be successful in everything you do. If we are going to put this in fewer words, I would say religion and culture are every man’s foundation and everything else is based on this.
I do disagree with the fact that mass media have a great influence on our personal thoughts and ideas. It might have a small effect somehow, although this depends on the issue. On the other hand, we all can live and shape our ideas without media and all this kind of stuff.
In conclusion, what I would like to say is that everything can have an effect on influencing our ideas, but there are things which have a massive effect on you.

The graph shows the number of visitors in millions who had visited different theme parks. There are number of increasing and decreasing which are shown in the graph in year 1995 to 2005.Tn the next paragraph I am going to write about the visitors in 5 different theme park.
Disneyland had the highest amount of visitors, while Alton Towers had the least amount of visitors. Busch Gardens visitors increased from 5 million to 10 million in 2000 however, Disneyland visitors had the highest number with more than 40 million visitors. Finally, Alton Towers had a slight increase in year 2000 with only 1 million differences.
Well, the highest number of visitors came from North America. On the other hand, Oceania had the least amount of visitors. European visitors had the second highest number in 2000 while; Asian visitors came in 3rd place.
In conclusion, Disneyland had the highest amount of visitors which means that it’s the most popular theme park.

Task 2
There are lots of people moving to a new city or a country. As years are passing the amount of people moving is increasing, and there are many different reasons behind this. The improvement in transportation and communication made the world much smaller than what it used to be. Looking for better education or suitable job are some of the reasons behind this issue.
The challenges are so many and it depends on the place you move to. Language could be a problem or challenging but not a serious one though. What can be a big challenge is a different culture. There are lots of things that would go under culture such as clothing, lifestyle and even food which might become difficult for some religions. Yet being homesick is something you cannot deny. Many people cannot handle staying away from their home town. What can be another challenge are rules and regulations, as we all know every country has different ones.
Well, there are many solutions for these challenges which might minimize the challenges and help people to get on quite easy in the country they planned to move to. One of the solutions is learning a common language, which is used worldwide.  Reading and respecting their culture is a massive solution which will save a lot of trouble and time to settle down.  After all this it would be helpful to find other people who have experienced the culture and getting information from them.
Overall, even though there are many solutions which might overcome the challenges, it is still hard to move to a new country and it takes some time to manage this, live happy and feel safe.  Whatever solutions you can find and even do, there will nothing better than home.

Task 1

The charts show the percentages of films shown in Britain and Australia by origin in year 2000. The second chart shows the cinema attendance in Britain and Australia throughout the period 1980 to 2000.

The highest percentage was 78% of films shown in Britain which came from the USA, while in Australia US films reached about 68%. British films shown were not as high as US films with only 20% in Britain and 59% in Australia. What we notice is there were no Australian films shown in Britain comparing to 10% shown in Australia.

In this chart British cinema attendance in 1980 started with 100 million and then declined dramatically to half this during the period from 1980 to 1982. Australian cinema attendance had the same decreasing percentage and it fall from 40 million to 20 million. The cinema attendance in Britain reached its highest point in 2000 with 150 million. During 1984 to 1990 the number of Australian’s attending cinemas was almost stable at 40 million. After that, the Australian attendance started to increase steadily throughout the years from 1990 to 2000.

In conclusion, US films are the most popular films shown in both Britain and Australia. We find out that there are no Australian films shown in Britain. In the last chart we see that the highest cinema attendance was in Britain with 150 million.

Report Of Ibrahim's Presentaion

Today, Ibrahim presented to us a presentation about "Polar Bears". Ibrahim started with introducing the presentation topic. Then he explained the reason behind choosing this topic. After that he started with giving us physical information about polar bears, including their weights, heights, and how long they can live. Then he talked about their location and that they only live in the North Pole. Then he talked about their favorite food, the ringed seal. After that, he started talking about their extinction and the factors affecting them. Also, how global warming is affecting them. Finally he ended his presentation by showing us some pie charts showing a map showing how these bears' numbers are decreasing.

Ibrahim did very well. The presentation layout was good and the pictures were nice and clear.

Report of Ibrahim and Mohammed presentation

Today, Ibrahim and Mohammed presented to us a presentation about "Parking Congestion". Ibrahim started with introducing the presentation topic. The, he explained the reason behind choosing this topic. After that, he started to introduce the topic outline. History was the first thing to start with; he talked about the traffic in the USA back in 1932 and how it was organized. Secondly, he mentioned frustration which can be caused by parking congestion when people are hurrying to their work and try to find parking quickly which makes them angry. Then he gave us a clear picture of what this might cause by mentioning chaotic and unorganized parking which was a very good picture. Mohammed's role was after this, starting with some real solutions of the problem. The first solution he offered is robotic car buildings where cars can be parked automatically. Another solution was that parking facility which can contain a large amount of cars in a smaller area. Then, Mohammed talked about some examples in the world and showed us some pictures of that.

Both of them did very well. The presentation layout was good and I think they covered everything and gave good examples and pictures. The best thing was that we face this problem in Abu Dhabi and it’s a kind of problem we have to deal with every single day.

Reflection 1

It’s my first meeting like this and I think it went quite well. The group I had was well organized and everyone did his part. I was the chairman of the meeting and I tend to introduce the problem, summarize it and look for solutions. Our meeting secretary was very good and he wrote sown everything we discussed. Having a participant in our meeting group helped us in many ways. He gave us load ideas and information about our problem and how to fix it. Overall, I think we had a good meeting which helped us a lot.

Group members:
Chair:  Jassim Alhammadi
Minute taker: Omar
Participants:  Salim

 Venue preparation:
Table and chairs for 3 people
Water for 3 on table
Tea, coffee and biscuits

Agenda:
1.      The problem is a worldwide issue
2.      The solution from the first place
3.      Children need to learn at home and school
4.      People need to be aware of the effects of drugs
5.      Parents need to look after their children and help them to find jobs
6.      Governments worldwide should enact laws to minimize the effect of drug abuse
Objectives:
-         Billions are spent internationally preventing drug use
-         Addicts cannot function as normal members of society
-          The neglect weakens their family.
-          It requires expensive treatment.
-         Huge police resources are needed to fight smuggling and dealing.
-          Criminal gangs and mafia develop with drug money

Solutions:
v Control the area where crops are grown to make drugs
v Children need to learn at home and school
v People need to be aware of the effect of drags

v Parents need to look after their children and help them to find jobs
v Governments worldwide should enact laws to minimize the effects of drug abuse
Discution:
§  0mar said that he agrees the problem is a world issue because every country has been facing this issue for long time. And Salim thinks that the problem is worldwide because the mafia is trading in many countries. Jassim agrees too that the problem is worldwide because the world's governments are trying to overcome this problem.
§  Regarding the solution from the first place, Salim thinks that in every serious problem like this you should start at the very beginning of it to fix it. Omar didn't say much about that and totally agreed with Salim. But Jassim thought that it's not always the first place that is the solution because the problem is very big.
§  Jassim agrees that teaching children at home is a good solution but it needs a long time. If so we shouldn't leave it like this and we should also focus on the young people too. Salim said if the students know the harm of drugs they will not use them. Omar said teaching children at home is of prime importance.
§  Jassim liked the idea that people should be aware of the effects that many drugs can cause. Salim agreed that the harm of drugs can be on all community members, young or old. That’s why all should be aware of that. Omar thinks that even if all people know the effect of drugs, it will not stop them. This is not a good solution and had nothing to add.
§  Jassim thinks that the laws now are good and the governments don't need to enact more laws. Salim agreed but said we need laws to minimize the problem and this should involve the UN and should be worldwide. Omar agreed because the laws right now are not good enough to face this huge problem. What we should be wary about is whether new laws would be good laws.

Tips for presentation

Tips for presentation

1.      Don’t memorize your presentation. Make brief notes to guide you.
2.      Practice many times.
3.      Relax, take a deep breath, and wait until the audience is quiet.
4.      Speak loudly and clearly, and use your voice for stress and emphasis.
5.      Make eye contact with the audience as you speak.
6.      Use gestures to show meaning. Make them slowly and clearly.
7.      Use simple visual aids that everyone can see.
8.      Don’t say, “Finished.” or “that’s all.” Smile and say thank you.
9.      Think about how you can do better next time.

The 2 most important ones for me:

·         Speak loudly and clearly, and use your voice for stress and emphasis.
·         Make eye contact with the audience as you speak.
